Patriot Scholars

DEADLINE TO APPLY HAS PASSED

The mission of the AFHS PTSA is to see that every Apex Friendship High School student achieves success and reaches their potential by supporting our students, families, staff, faculty, and community. It is with great pride that we offer scholarships to encourage our seniors to continue their education beyond high school. These scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors who have demonstrated exceptional effort to enrich their school and community through volunteer service, academic excellence, and leadership.

Patriot Scholarship

To support our students as they prepare for their journey after AFHS, the PTSA is pleased to award a scholarship of $500 to six (6) AFHS graduating seniors, our Patriot Scholars. These scholarships are intended for graduating seniors who will attend a tuition-based two-year or four-year college, university, or trade school and enroll in a course of study for the Summer/Fall semester immediately following graduation from AFHS.

Eligibility

Patriot Scholar Application

Application Review Process

Applications will be reviewed anonymously by a staff scholarship review panel. The panel will only know applications based on assigned numbers, and not student names. Applicants may be disqualified at the discretion of the PTSA and Scholarship Review Panel, if application rules are not followed or if misconduct and/or application process tampering (including panel inquiries) is discovered.  All decisions made by the scholarship review panel are final.

Notification of Award

The AFHS PTSA will notify selected students directly via email by May 20, 2024. Be sure to provide an email address that you check regularly in your application. An awarded scholarship may be forfeited, if a selected student fails to respond and submit required documentation before the last day of school.

Recognition of Award

A certificate will be presented at the Senior Awards event in June 2024. Event details are pending.

Payment of Award

Patriot Scholars will receive an award letter and acknowledgement form that will need to be returned along with requested documentation BEFORE the scholarship check will be issued. Payment of Award will be made directly to the institution of higher learning, upon verification that the student is enrolled at that institution to begin classes in the Summer/Fall semester following graduation. No payment will be made without verification of enrollment.

In the event the selected recipient decides not to further their education in a post-secondary accredited institution in the semester following graduation or receives a scholarship covering full tuition and fees from another source, the student must immediately notify the Senior Scholarship Committee, and the committee will select an alternate student.

If the selected recipient decides not to pursue their post-secondary education after the scholarship funds have been awarded to the accredited institution identified, the student must reimburse the full awarded amount to the AFHS PTSA.
